About Us
In Christchurch in the 80’s, in a little backyard shed,
A gardener called Godfrey grew inventions in his head
And with a set of clever jigs, a grindstone and a saw,
Produced a handy weeder, as was never seen before.
With shiny bright red handle, well designed, and nice to hold
It looked too small and simple, yet worth its weight in gold.
Light and easy, neat and nippy, it quickly whipped about
Got down close beside those weeds, and with a flick just hooked them out
As fellow gardeners tested them, the word soon got around
“A little Wonder Weeder can clear a lot of ground”
So Godfrey’s shed was busy. He was really on his way
And twisting out those weeders, each and every single day.
In ’98 the Weeder jigs moved north to Lower Hutt
Where David, George and Alma learned to measure, twist and cut
The customers stayed happy, and Godfrey took a rest.
The orders kept on coming. Wonder Weeders were the best.
The horticultural mecca of The Chelsea Flower Show
Was where, of course, Wonder Weeders had to go
And canny UK experts just loved the little gem
The Wonder from Down Under worked just as well for them
So for the UK market, our cousins Steve and Sue
Made sturdy strong Speed Weeders, just as Godfrey used to do
Round stately homes of England, and humble veggie plots
The weeders soon were hard at work, in borders beds and pots
At home, the years kept rolling on, as seasons always will
The weeders moved on north across the Remutaka hill
Now from the Wairarapa they still go marching out
To places far across the sea, and gardens round about
In Germany, Tasmania and San Francisco Bay
Alaska, Patagonia, the weeders scratch away
As long as there are gardens, this story’s far from through
It really is a wonder what some Number 8 can do.
